COLD-TAKES

What’s a variety/style of beverage that always brings you comfort?

JP: I’m always moving towards fuller body reds at this season. Always craving a rich, dense, well balanced Pinot Noir but also love a great Shiraz or Cabernet from Victoria, either Pyrenees or Macedon.
JW: I love a “Blancs de Noirs” when the weather gets cold, reminds me of the mandatory glass of Crémant during our Christmas celebration back home in Alsace. The “Mountain Fizz” from Little Reddie is a great local pick!

Where are you heading when you want comfort but don’t feel like hosting?

JP & JW (we both agree)
I love the comfort and warm atmosphere of a good pub on a cold day, take me back to my time in London. We are lucky to have a lots of options here in Fitzroy but my favourite are the Marquis of Lorne, Napier Hotel and Builders Arms.

What’s your go-to dish when you want to impress your guests?

JP: A “blanquette de veau” or a “bœuf Bourguignon”. It’s a bit of work but well done in winter that would make everybody agree that you need to host more often!
JW: I am stealing the Mussels Marinières recipe of Jules and claiming it's mine. Ahah Best thing I ate this year!

What album are you putting on when you need to set the mood?

JP: George Benson, The Shape Of Things To Come.
JW: “Finis” by Finis Henderson for a bit of boogie
