Crittendon Estate Gepetto Chardonnay 2023

Grown in one of our favourite Yarra Valley subregions, Dixons Creek, this is a cool climate-styled Shiraz that’s full of true-to-style dark fruits like violets and dark plums, whilst still being easy-drinking in the Bistro way – just like that inspiring Syrah we loved in the Rhône Valley too long ago.

Alpino Prosecco Glera NV

Soumah – South of Maroondah so this wine’s all about place and optimising the conditions to come up with something that speaks for the year, with just a little bit of the winemakers’ inflection. Marzemino is traditionally a Trentino grape that’s robust and full of big, dark fruits, some lovely savoury tones, and chalky tannins. This nails that, but gives just a little Yarra brightness and approachability.

Fruits are sourced from the King Valley and Strathbogie Ranges, and carry plenty of slightly darker-for-Pinot flavours, while retaining buoyant and brisk acidity and a little minty fresh alpine-y edge. This is all value and leaves you a little to think about if you want to let your thoughts linger or drift.

Skye Ridge Pinot Noir 2022

A local grown alternative for lovers of Moscato that’s full of rose petals and nectarine, with a little sweetness. Perfect for summer. You should drink this in the park, in your bare feet and while wearing sunscreen. It’s clean, refreshing, spritzy and yum.

Soumah Brachetto Frizzante NV

Fits perfectly in your tumbler or carafe and suits your table cloth, and if you drink it on Nonna’s plastic-covered couch, you can theoretically spill without staining, but don't because it’s delicious! Also, she'll never forgive you. Has plenty of bright acidity and crunchy red fruits that will even make pizza better.

Soumah Nebbiolo Barbera 2023

One of our most inviting wines for Bordeaux and Syrah/Cabernet lovers. This is heaven at a BBQ, and has that moreish, sleek oak polish 99% of wine drinkers absolutely crave. Pure silk; but with tobacco and some plummy richness (thanks Malbec), which bulks up all the bright blueberries.

Eck Wines Pohlmans Creek Rouge Cuvee Cab Malbec Merlot 2022

Semi carbonic and fermented half whole bunch. There's nothing country club about this Pinot and in the glass you get that personality through light raspberry leaf, herbs and a fleshy, vermouth vibe that makes for just a little, bitter snap.

Triffids Pinot Noir 2023

Some of our favourite Grenaches have very delicate Turkish Delight and milk chocolate notes that somehow fit perfectly amongst all the jubey raspberry and pepper. Light in style yes, but heavy on character.

Alessandro Stefani La Vignola Sangiovese 2022

Juicy like ribena but without all the sugar, and with a lot more going on, like a little oak derived tannin that adds some drive and means it can hang with a roast girello, or your daily slices of asiago cheese – yes, that reads daily. Maybe we'll call it the ribenix cube.

Pretty peonies and rose petals blossom in every glass so pour, pour, pour away until your heart’s hydrated and the bottle’s empty. Hits with some chalky tannin and a little bright, but fleshy fruit.

All melody, no naïvety. This is the latest in our series on place and focuses on a darling region, Heathcote. This has everything we love because home is where we want to be, so there’s mulberry, peonies, compote spice and liqueured forest berries delivered glass after glass. There’s no need to speak in tongues, this is approachable and for everyone at the table.

This Must Be The Place Heathcote Shiraz 2023

With a little decant Intrinsic settles and comes through bright with boysenberry, pomegranate and some cherry-depth. Owen Latta and his crew have done amazingly well, and made the most of trying weather conditions. This is one to cellar, or enjoy now and it’s punching well above its price point.

Eastern Peake Intrinsic Pinot Noir 2022

Soft richness with a snapped-off piece of nougat and a peachy fruit feel that’s almost palpable and fades into your mood and takes over in the best way, like the Mazzy Star song that inspired this note. It’s refreshing and comforting so it’s perfect for opening before sunset and finishing in the dark.

You’ve gotta love a deep and delicious Pinot that’s got some bigggg vibes and can hang with your favourite cuts of beef, venison, roo and maybe even some delicious lamb.

The other Grange, the Sutton Grange. Dry, textural and savoury rosé that pours juicy with blackcurrant bush, wild strawberries with a little musk and keen price. Whole bunch pressed and just lightly fined. Cheers Fairbank, you’ve nailed it again.
