Sven Joschke
When we drink Sven’s wines, we get a feeling that he’s seen something in the grapes, land, and season. A compelling thread that the wine represents. Perfectly.

SVEN JOSCHKE
Sven Joschke produces otherworldly wines in a region that’s a bastion of tradition and the status quo. Naturally, we love him for that. The weather in the Adelaide Hills is changing, throwing up new challenges, but thanks to great vine management and Sven’s relationships with his farmers help to prop el his vinous visions, and bring us one breathtaking cuvee after another.
‘Make it delicious, and let nature speak’ is his ethos and, thanks to his considered experience and intuitive winemaking practices, he’s striking a chord and quickly achieving cult status.
COLD-TAKES
What’s a variety/style of beverage that always brings you comfort?
Typically any white varietals with a little oomph, texture, barrel and lees work. Think Viognier, Melon de Bourgogne and Chardonnay from the right hands. Nothing like a warm hug from a voluptuous, rounded Viognier on a cold winter’s night in front of the fire.
Where are you heading when you want comfort but don’t feel like hosting?
Straight to one of Melbourne’s “dive”/wine bars. They can have my cosy comfort business anytime. Neighbourhood wine comes to mind with their amazing wine list and impressive food. Can’t go past the Rainbow Hotel too.
What’s your go-to dish when you want to impress your guests?
Green Thai Chicken Curry - Chicken marinated in paste from scratch for 1 day. Seared briefly over coals and then effectively poached in Coconut milk and base paste. Add vege and co….on! Paired with a crunchy Amber Wine, tannins and fleshiness work well with the spice.
What album are you putting on when you need to set the mood?
Kruder & Dorfmeister’s DJ-Kicks or Fat Freddy’s Drop’s Based on a True Story always gets the tastebuds in the “dining with wine” mood.
